Calling all young entrepreneurs!
The Studio School of Durham will host its first annual Children’s Pop Up Market Saturday, October 5th from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Vendors ages 6-15 ready to showcase their goods and services are invited to apply to our Market.
Applications will be accepted until the market fills, and vendors will be notified of their acceptance to the market on a rolling basis.
Whether an entrepreneur is famous like Elon Musk or Oprah Winfrey or they are one of the thousands of unsung small business owners across this city and our country, these are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs and serve their communities. Providing children the opportunity to experience running their own business at an early age is a unique opportunity we are proud to share with our community.
Cash prizes ranging $50-$100 will be awarded in each age group for the following categories:
Best Presentation (Audio or Visual)
*Judges Overall Favorite will also be awarded to the booth most compelling across all categories.
The Studio School of Durham will also host two workshops in the month of September to help our young entrepreneurs prepare for the main event.
Unsure where to start? Our advice is to keep it simple.
First, think about what you can make with your own hands that others might enjoy.
Next, picture how you might sell it.
Finally, imagine the feeling (and responsibility) of having a little extra spending money as a result.
Please submit one application for each business. (Children working as a group may submit one application with all children’s info.)
The competition will be judged in the following THREE age categories: Ages 6-8, 9-11, 12-15.
If children of different age groups prepare a booth together, they will be judged in the age group of the oldest participant.
There will be NO soliciting personal/individual business sponsors for your child’s product.
Please note that you may help your child fill out the booth application, but depending ontheir age, they are expected to do as much as possible by themselves.
We will begin to notify accepted applicants September 8th.
Instead of an application fee at the time of submission, we will instead be collecting a $20 participation fee from all accepted business ideas.
Need help funding your business? Let us know in the application.
